Work through the checks in order: the first ones rule a service in or out, the later ones help you choose between the services that are left. Fill in the worksheet as you go.
1. Content rights and transparency
A trustworthy service tells you who runs it, publishes terms of service and a privacy policy, and is clear about what it is licensed to distribute in your country. If a provider cannot explain where its content comes from, treat that as a warning sign.

2. Devices and apps
List every screen you want to watch on and confirm each one is supported, including whether you need a specific app, a third-party player or extra hardware.

3. Simultaneous streams
Check how many devices can play at the same time on each plan. A plan that looks cheaper can cost more if your household needs a higher tier.

4. Video quality and stability
Look beyond “4K” labels: which content is actually available in HD or 4K, and does it need a higher plan? A trial on your own connection is the only reliable test of stability.

5. Trial and refund terms
Read what happens when a trial ends, whether a refund is possible and under which conditions, and how to cancel. Good terms are written down before you pay, not explained afterwards.
6. Payment security
Prefer payment methods with buyer protection. Be cautious with services that only accept untraceable payments or ask you to pay through private messages.

7. Support channels and hours
Find out how to reach support, when it is available and in which languages. Send a pre-sales question and note how quickly and clearly you get an answer.
8. Total cost of ownership
Add up the subscription, any paid player-app upgrades, extra hardware such as a streaming stick or Ethernet adapter, and the internet plan you need for your chosen quality.

9. Privacy and data
Check what personal data the service and its apps collect, whether it is shared with third parties and how you can delete your account.

A simple comparison worksheet
Copy this table into a spreadsheet and fill in one column per service you are considering.
| Check | Service A | Service B |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Company name, terms and privacy policy published | ||
| 2. Works on all my devices (and which app) | ||
| 3. Simultaneous streams on my plan | ||
| 4. Max quality on my plan, and stable at peak time | ||
| 5. Trial, refund and cancellation terms in writing | ||
| 6. Payment method with buyer protection | ||
| 7. Support channels, hours and reply time | ||
| 8. Total yearly cost (subscription + apps + hardware) | ||
| 9. Data collected, shared and deletable |
A blank you cannot fill from published information is an answer in itself: ask the provider in writing before you pay.
